A critical incident is an event that people consider to be shocking because it causes unusually strong emotions. An incident of aggression on board is a good example, which might cause feelings of fear, powerlessness or guilt. In the airline world and elsewhere, the idea is gaining ground that people who have been confronted with shocking events need attention and support to process their emotions.
